Joerg Auzinger produces artwork that explores the sociopolitical dimensions of our technology-infused communication society.

Joerg Auzinger studied media art under Peter Weibel at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Prior to that, he completed the Department of Audiovisual Media and Photography at the Ortweinschule for Art & Design in Graz as a student of Richard Kriesche and Branko Lenart. Additionally, Joerg Auzinger pursued film directing at the Vienna Film Academy under the guidance of Prof. Axel Corti.

Joerg Auzinger transforms digital media’s influence on communication through interactive installations, photos, and objects. His art explores self-perception, reality construction, and societal shifts across media, blending contemporary issues with cultural nods. Auzinger invites playful engagement in his installations, weaving user interaction to explore individual realities in our tech-driven communication society. 

His interactive installations, photographs, and objects analyze the impact of both new and traditional media on our perception of reality. Auzinger, mentored by Peter Weibel, seamlessly blends analog and digital realms, highlighting the socio-political aspects of technology-driven communication societies. With a background in media art and film directing, he has globally exhibited his works and contributed as a visiting professor, workshop leader, and curator, emphasizing interactivity and participation in his interdisciplinary projects.

Twentieth century art was branded by photography, but the history of 21st century media art will stand under the paradigm of the user, according to media theorist Peter Weibel (1). Digital media and the internet have redefined the relationship of the observer and the object. Now, this emancipated public should act as the programmer and producer, itself creating the content of exhibitions (2).The interactive participation opportunities created by electronic media also produced new presentation methods in the traditional museum field, both in real and in virtual space. In the modern “Expanded Museum (3)”, digital tools vastly broaden not only museum storage capacity, but also the visitor’s scope of action…
