Joerg Auzinger creates artwork that explores the sociopolitical dimensions of our technology-driven communication society.

Joerg Auzinger studied Media Art with Peter Weibel at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Prior to that, he completed a degree in Audiovisual Media and Photography at the Ortweinschule for Art & Design in Graz, where he was a student of Richard Kriesche and Branko Lenart. Additionally, Auzinger pursued film directing at the Vienna Film Academy under the mentorship of Prof. Axel Corti.

Joerg Auzinger examines the influence of digital media on communication through interactive installations, immersive environments, photography, and objects. His art explores self-perception, the construction of reality, and societal shifts across media, blending contemporary issues with cultural references. Auzinger invites playful engagement in his installations, using user interaction to explore individual realities in our tech-driven communication society.

His interactive works analyze the impact of both new and traditional media on our perception of reality. Mentored by Peter Weibel and Richard Kriesche, Auzinger seamlessly merges analogue and digital realms, emphasizing the socio-political dimensions of modern communication systems. With a background in media art and film directing, he has exhibited his works globally and contributed as a visiting professor, workshop leader, and curator, always emphasizing interactivity and participation in his interdisciplinary projects. By continuously involving observers in interactive processes, Joerg Auzinger creates intentional interfaces between the public and his artworks.

Twentieth century art was branded by photography, but the history of 21st century media art will stand under the paradigm of the user, according to media theorist Peter Weibel (1). Digital media and the internet have redefined the relationship of the observer and the object. Now, this emancipated public should act as the programmer and producer, itself creating the content of exhibitions (2).The interactive participation opportunities created by electronic media also produced new presentation methods in the traditional museum field, both in real and in virtual space.
